The Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation joined the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Four days before the beginning of the state of emergency, the Romanian Angel Appeal team started one of the most intense and motivating brainstorming actions in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. They asked themselves what to do for the beneficiaries of their projects, especially with the TB patients and those with respiratory tract infections who have twice the risk of dying from COVID-19 which affects the lungs just as TB.

On March 16, the first day of the state of emergency, Romanian Angel Appeal already had decided to distribute protective materials and disinfectants to medical staff in TB dispensaries in 5 counties, and also explore alternative ways to help patients with tuberculosis in the medium and long term so that the care and support system will be prepared for another emergency in the future.

They turned to the Global Fund, an international donor that has since 2004 invested tens of millions of euros in Romania to fight HIV / AIDS and Tuberculosis. The Global Fund also understood the exceptional situation of the whole world and supported the effort to limit the number of infections. After completing the needs analysis for 5 counties, Romanian Angel Appeal also received support from their colleagues from the Stop TB Romanian Partnership who helped in the discussions with the dispensaries and in collecting the needs from the grass-root level.  For more information please check here.
