7T1A3411On July 26, 2017, a roundtable discussion on “Innovative Technologies in TB control” was held in Bishkek.

The event was held by the Branch Office of Project HOPE-Kyrgyzstan and the National Center for Tuberculosis under the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The project “Innovative Approach to the Transportation of Biological Samples for Diagnosis and Treatment Monitoring of TB Patients” designed to improve the procedures of prompt diagnosis and early treatment of TB patients is being implemented in Kyrgyz Republic since the start of the year. The project is implemented by the Project HOPE-Kyrgyzstan jointly with the Ministry of Health, State Department for Prevention of Diseases and Epidemiological Surveillance. Sokuluk Region of Chui Oblast has been selected as a pilot region for the project.

During the round table, the findings of the project, experience of utilization of advanced digital technologies in TB control, innovative model of transportation of biological materials for TB diagnosis have been represented, and local and international experts shared their experiences.

The event involved representatives of the Ministry of Health, National Center for Tuberculosis, Mandatory Health Insurance Fund, as well as representatives of international organizations – USAID, World Health Organization, The Global Fund, International Committee of the Red Cross, local non-governmental organizations.

“The project has been implemented in Sokuluk district for a half year. We have good results, which were presented to the event participants – Government representatives and international and local experts, – and we learnt about their experience. Due to Innovative system of the Transportation of Biological Samples it is possible to reduce essentially the diagnostic time and begin the tuberculosis treatment, improve access to laboratory diagnostics, strengthen the infection control during transportation of pathological materials, reduce patients expenses. Successful use of developed system makes possible to implement it across the Kyrgyzstan – marked the branch director of Project HOPE-Kyrgyzstan Mr. Artur Niyazov.

About the activity of the Project HOPE-Kyrgyzstan

Project HOPE-Kyrgyzstan in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health has implemented 3 programs: Humanitarian Assistance program; Tuberculosis Control Program funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; the USAID Quality Health Care project. As part of the Humanitarian Assistance Program, the Project HOPE has delivered medicines and health care products free of charge to the Kyrgyz Republic in the amount of USD 81,099,630.63 since January 2011.

Currently, Project HOPE provides technical assistance to the country in the implementation of the National Electronic System for tuberculosis case tracking, implements the project of sputum transportation in Sokuluk Region of Chui Oblast, and is proceeding to implementation of the model of sputum transportation in Naryn Oblast.
